Location and Address

University of Pittsburgh, University Club

123 University Pl, Pittsburgh, PA 15260

This is a two-day international symposium to honor Distinguished Professor John Beverley on the occasion of his retirement after 48 years of service at the University of Pittsburgh. The symposium will focus on questions that have strongly permeated John’s intellectual career as well as the field of Latin American studies: the urgency of Latin Americanism in times of conflicting globalization and crisis of Area Studies.

The event will take place at a time of unprecedented questioning of the importance and role of Latin America for contemporary reflection in an age marked by corporate globalization and global insecurities. Bringing together a select group of Latin Americanists, the Symposium will be structured around topics connected to or inspired by John’s research.
