The Humanities Media Fellowship is a paid position that offers an opportunity for an undergraduate student at Pitt to plan, produce, and promote media projects that bring humanities-related content to a broader audience. The fellow will serve primarily as a producer for the Being Human podcast, which features interviews with visitors to Pitt who work in the humanities. The interviews are published monthly, and are available on Soundcloud, iTunes, and most other podcast carriers.Serving as producer for Being Human includes the following responsibilities:
• Recording guests’ interviews in the WPTS studio;
• Editing and producing interviews using Hindenburg software;
• Promoting interviews through social media and other channels.
In addition, the fellow will be expected to work with the Being Human team to produce an audio documentary addressing an issue of their choice. The fellow should expect to do a substantial amount of research, planning, and interviewing in production of the documentary. They should also expect to create publicity plans and materials for the documentary so that it can reach as wide an audience as possible. The fellow will develop plans for the documentary in dialogue with the Being Human team in monthly production meetings throughout the year. The deadline for the finished product will be the end of the spring semester, 2021.
The position provides a stipend of $300 per month from September, 2020 through April, 2021, with the possibility of working summer months (May-August, 2021). Please note that you do not need audio editing experience for this position! The ideal candidate will be reliable enough to do monthly production work for Being Human, and ambitious enough to create a meaningful, important documentary over the course of the year.

The fellowship is supervised by Dan Kubis, senior lecturer in English and host of Being Human, and Greg Weston, general manager of WPTS. For the 2020-2021 academic year, it will be sponsored by WPTS, the English department, and the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences.
